Frequently Asked Questions

Weather in Southeast Alaska can be unpredictable! The temperatures range between high 40's and mid 60's in summer months, and can be colder during shoulder seasons. We highly recommend bringing waterproof layers and study hiking shoes!

Group Size

We only offer private hikes, so you will not be mixed with other folks. Our group sizes are small to keep the experience meaningful, and to limit our impact on the environment and community. Due to trail limitations in Sitka, we can only take 7 people at one time on most trails. If you have a larger group, contact us for options! If you are a solo traveler, we are happy to take you hiking at an increased rate. Reach out for more details.

We only offer private hikes so we can be flexible to fit your hiking desires and abilities. Half-day hikes are between 2-4 hours and full-day hikes are between 5-7 hours; however, if you'd like something shorter or longer we are happy to make it work!

Round trip transportation to and from the location of your choice is included in your hike package! No need to wait in long bus lines. Just let us know where and when you'd like to be picked up and dropped off, and we'll make it happen. We have 100% success rate in getting cruise passengers back to the ship on time!

Cancellation Policy

As a small business that relies on hikers showing up rain or shine, Alpenglow Adventures Sitka has a strict cancellation policy. No refunds will be offered within 7 days of your hike unless we cancel the hike due to unsafe weather conditions, or your cruise ship doesn't arrive on the expected date. If you cancel more than 7 days from your hike, a 50% refund will be provided. Bookings made on Viator or Tripadvisor are non-refundable. Thank you for understanding!

We recommend bringing a day pack, waterproof layers, and sturdy shoes. We provide water, snacks, trekking poles, sunscreen, and bug spray on all hiking tours. Full-day hiking trips include lunch.

Sitka sits on Baranof Island, which is home to one of the largest brown bear densities in the world! We have ~1 bear per square mile. We do our best to avoid encounters by staying as a group, making noise, & carrying bear spray. Your guides take every measure to keep you safe!

All of our guides are Sitka locals with their Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification. Your experience and safety is our highest concern. Our guides are knowledgeable, experienced, and here to make this the trip of a lifetime! Please let them know if you have any special requests. There will always be 1 guide per 6 people. Groups of 7+ will have a second guide.

Why choose to hike with Alpenglow Adventures Sitka? Our collective experience, attention to detail, and desire to make your hike the highlight of your trip means we care about each individual's experience. We can't wait to share the best of Sitka with you!
