Alpenglow Adventures Sitka

Frequently Asked Questions
Weather
Weather in Southeast Alaska can be unpredictable! The temperatures range between high 40's and mid 60's in summer months, and can be colder during shoulder seasons. We highly recommend waterproof layers, breathable clothing, and study hiking shoes! We advise against wearing cotton, and instead recommend breathable, moisture wicking materials such as polyester, merino wool, or nylon.
Transportation
Transportation to and from the location of your choice is included in your hike package! No need to wait in long bus lines. Just let us know where and when you'd like to be picked up and dropped off, and we'll make it happen. We have 100% success rate in getting cruise passengers back to the ship on time!
Flexibility
We only offer private hikes so we can be flexible to fit your hiking desires and abilities. Half-day hikes are between 2-4 hours and full-day hikes are between 5-7 hours; however, if you'd like something shorter or longer we are happy to make it work!
Gratuity
Gratuity is not included in the tour price. We love what we do and tipping is not expected, but it's always appreciated!
Bears
Sitka sits on Baranof Island, which is home to the coastal brown bear. There are over 1,000 bears on this island, meaning there is roughly 1 bear per square mile! These bears are similar to the grizzly bear, but they have an abundant marine food source. Lucky for us, that means they are preoccupied with the salmon and berries. Your experienced guide will carry bear spray and will ensure any encounters are handled safely and professionally.
Group Size
We only offer private hikes. Our group sizes are small to keep the experience meaningful, and to limit our impact on the environment and community. Due to trail limitations in Sitka, we can only take 7 people at a time on most trails. If you have a larger group, contact us for options! If you are a solo traveler, we are happy to take you hiking at an increased rate. Reach out for more details.
Packing
We recommend comfortable, breathable clothes, a day pack, waterproof layers, and sturdy shoes. We provide water, snacks, trekking poles, sunscreen, and bug spray on all hiking tours. Full-day hiking trips include lunch. Let us know if you have dietary restrictions or preference - we're happy to accommodate!
Waivers
We require that every hiker signs a waiver prior to hiking with us. Waivers will be provided the day of your excursion.
Cancellation Policy
A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to confirm your booking. The remaining payment is due 1 month before your hike date. If you must cancel and you are more than 7 days away from the hike, a 50% refund of the full invoice will be provided. No refunds will be offered within 7 days of your hike unless we cancel the hike due to unsafe weather conditions, or your cruise ship doesn't arrive. Thank you for understanding!
